Since 1994, the Stevie Ray Vaughan Scholarship Fund of Communities Foundation of Texas has honored the memory of legendary guitarist and blues legend Stevie Ray Vaughan by recognizing, promoting and encouraging musically talented students of W.E. Greiner Middle School Exploratory Arts Academy. With the intent of encouraging students to pursue careers in music by continuing the study of music in high school and college, the 4-year, $4,000 scholarship is awarded to eighth graders and is made available upon successful graduation from high school. To date, 209 scholarships have been awarded and over $90,000 has been granted out to support student’s study of music at some of the nation’s top schools, including Berklee College of Music, Oberlin College and the New England Conservatory. The scholarship celebrated the 20th anniversary of its first grant in 2016.
